About the Role

At Toole Design, we lead in creating safer, more connected communities through sustainable multimodal transportation design. We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist with a strong background in ERISA-governed benefits to join our team. The ideal candidate excels at explaining complex benefits in plain language, prioritizes equity, and understands the relationship between total compensation and performance. This role requires someone adept at coaching and supporting staff and managers, with a collaborative, people-first approach, capable of advocating for employees while representing the company. Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of People and Culture, Accounting leadership, and external advisors to support leadership and staff, specializing in ERISA-governed benefits.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies for staff, manage reporting, and oversee compliance.
  • Lead audits, ensuring accurate reporting, strong documentation, and support.
  • Serve as a trusted partner and leader for benefits-related needs within the firm.
  • Support staff as a trusted partner on the People & Culture team.
  • Advise on policies and approaches that align with the organization's mission and team needs.
  • Advise staff, create and co-lead trainings, and coach team members as a senior member of the People & Culture (HR) team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, organizational development, human resources, economics, accounting, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • 8+ years of Human Resources experience, including at least 4 years with ERISA-governed benefits and retirement plans.
  • Strong knowledge of qualified retirement plans and ERISA laws.
  • Hands-on experience managing compliance testing and reporting processes such as Form 5500, ADP/ACP, and 409(p).
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor staff while collaborating across teams to develop strategies and creative solutions.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • HR certification required (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR).
  • Retirement plan certifications such as CPSP, QKA, or QPA preferred.

Education Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, organizational development, human resources, economics, accounting, or a related field
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • HR certification required (SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR)
  • Retirement plan certifications such as CPSP, QKA, or QPA preferred

Salary/Compensations

  • Targeting a salary range of $85,000 to $95,000
  • Exceptionally qualified candidates may qualify for more
