About the Role
The ACLU seeks a full-time Paralegal for the Immigrants’ Rights Project in its National office. This hybrid role requires in-office presence two days per week or eight days per month. The Immigrants’ Rights Project, a national initiative of the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation, is dedicated to protecting immigrants' civil rights and liberties through impact litigation, advocacy, and public outreach. The project conducts extensive litigation in state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court, to defend and expand immigrant rights, enforce constitutional guarantees, and achieve equal justice. It also engages with media, advocacy groups, and ACLU affiliates to empower immigrant communities with information on their rights and immigration laws. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit, represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
Responsibilities
- Provide litigation and administrative support to the Immigrants' Rights Project
- Prepare and file litigation documents in federal and occasionally state courts
- Respond to legal assistance inquiries
- Maintain files and records, including databases, case files, and correspondence
- Handle general administrative duties such as processing invoices, tracking expenses, preparing expense reports, assisting with travel, and ordering supplies
- Research and analyze court rules, relevant litigation, and factual issues
- Serve as a liaison with co-counsel and clients
- Respond to intake calls, emails, and letters from individuals seeking assistance
- Draft materials for public dissemination or IRP supporters
- Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned by IRP leadership and attorneys

- Salaries are subject to regional pay adjustment if authorized to work outside the listed location
