About the Role

This is a temporary / seasonal position from August 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027, assisting in managing waterfowl populations on NYC water supply reservoirs in Westchester Co, NY, primarily in Valhalla and Yonkers. Key tasks include observing and recording waterfowl and gull species data, and implementing methods to deter populations from roosting. Work is performed outdoors on and around targeted reservoirs using small boats, airboats, or 4WD vehicles. Crew members will receive First Aid/CPR/AED, boat operation, and other job-related safety training.

Perform waterfowl roosting mitigative measures
Operate vehicles and boats

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum Associate degree in applied science in Wildlife or a closely related discipline (environmental science, ecology, biology, etc.) or comparable education and experience
Ability to work weekends and holidays
Ability to withstand various field conditions (wet weather, heat, cold, etc.)
Ability to hike to observation points, carrying requisite equipment and supplies
Valid driver's license and compliance with HDR's vehicle policy
Ability to submit to NYC and Federal security background checks
Microsoft Office product experience
General background-related experience
Commitment to being an active participant of an employee-owned culture

Skills

Bird identification, particularly with Eastern North American waterfowl and gull species
Small boat operations
4WD vehicle operations
Performing technical duties, such as sample collection and data recording
