About the Role
Red Badger is seeking a Tech Lead to join their digital product delivery team. In this role, you will collaborate with a Delivery Lead to guide a team in delivering high-quality software for clients, tackling complex business challenges with varying technologies. You should be adept at problem-solving, customer-focused, comfortable consulting with technical stakeholders, and an advocate for agile methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers within a cross-functional delivery team.
- Utilize modern development practices to deliver high-quality software.
- Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and designs for projects.
- Adapt to new languages and frameworks as needed.
- Begin or continue a career path in line management.
- Coach and support peers.
- Provide post-launch support for digital products based on client requirements.
- Facilitate and contribute to agile ceremonies, enhancing the agile process.
- Collaborate with delivery managers and product owners to lead teams in delivering quality digital products.
- Lead and support peers in technical discussions.
- Promote lean software development principles.
- Engage in pair programming with team members, including designers.
- Manage client relationships with technical stakeholders.
- Proactively engage with clients to advance projects, providing updates and identifying technical blockers.
- Incorporate modern software practices into client teams.
- Spend approximately half of your time coding, pairing, and reviewing code.
- Spend the other half supporting other functions and clients with technical strategy decisions.
- Provide support and line management to engineers on the team.
Requirements
- Experience with web frontend and backend technologies (e.g., Typescript, React, Node.JS, Rust, Go).
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases (e.g., ElasticSearch, Redis, PostgreSQL).
- Knowledge of system architecture approaches (e.g., microservices, event sourcing, serverless, CQRS).
- Experience with virtualization and orchestration tools (e.g., VMs, Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Pulumi).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, CircleCI, Github Actions).
- Proficiency in test automation using Test Driven Development practices, including unit, API, and end-to-end testing.
- Understanding of design and technical trade-offs, optimizing for lean product development and end-user value.
- Experience designing an agile release engineering strategy for incremental and continuous value delivery.
- Experience supporting highly available live production systems, including responding to alerts, diagnosing issues with observability tools, and resolving incidents.
- Experience with lean and agile practices (e.g., Kanban, Scrum).
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams.
- Experience coaching and line managing software engineers.
- Ability to design, build, debug, and contribute to evolving cloud-based architectures using Everything-as-Code principles.
- Experience negotiating SLAs and SLOs with business and support teams.
- Experience shaping and resourcing technical teams.
- Ability to translate commercial objectives into technical strategy.
- Proven track record of tech leadership on complex engineering projects, setting technical vision, and managing stakeholders.
- Experience coaching and line managing software engineers new to management.
- Experience representing the company publicly through media, meetups, and conferences.
