About the Role

This role contributes to providing specialized legal support services to the judiciary, the Court, and its clients. It involves exercising the Court's powers to ensure legal and procedural issues are handled professionally and promptly.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine probate applications.
  • Determine chamber applications, including enforcement of judgments, granting leave to issue subpoenas, making orders for substituted service, and registering foreign judgments.
  • Sit in court to conduct examinations under the Corporations Act 2001, Criminal Assets Recovery Act 1900, and Evidence on Commission Act 1995.
  • Conduct mediations under the court-annexed mediation scheme (Legal Officer III only).
  • Act as the Duty Registrar to provide procedural information to litigants, the legal profession, and registry staff.

Requirements

  • Interest in Probate and Civil procedure.
  • Understanding of the Supreme Court Act 1970, Civil Procedure Act 2005, related rules, practice, and procedure.
  • Willingness to attend the registry in-person each weekday.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong skills in time management and prioritizing work.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • High levels of integrity.
  • Desire to be involved in the administration of justice.
  • Admitted as a legal practitioner in NSW (or another State or Territory within Australia).
