About the Role

As a Staff Design Engineer on Superhuman Go, this role bridges design and front-end engineering, transforming ideas into shipped interfaces. Responsibilities include prototyping interactions in code to validate behavior and delivering production experiences with high standards for craft, performance, and reliability. The role involves close partnership with product designers, the design system team, and other engineers to elevate product craft. Go is an agent for productivity, offering proactive assistance within Superhuman products, on desktop, or across the web. It enables users to take action on tasks and serves as the layer converting intent into outcomes within Superhuman's AI-native productivity suite.

Responsibilities

Deliver features end-to-end, from prototype to shipment, ensuring responsive, intuitive, and trustworthy front-end experiences across desktop, web, and embedded surfaces.
Build interactive code prototypes to test interaction models, agent behaviors, streaming responses, and motion, resolving design questions mocks cannot answer.
Extend and own design system components, primitives, and patterns, transforming one-off polish into reusable building blocks.
Implement motion and micro-interactions to enhance product feel and clarify agent behavior.
Utilize AI coding tools like Cursor and Claude Code, sharing patterns and workflows with the team for code-based design.
Partner with product designers, product managers, and front-end engineers, providing input on design and implementation.

Requirements

7+ years building product interfaces with a portfolio of shipped features.
Strong front-end skills in React and TypeScript.
High craft bar across layout, typography, motion, and micro-interactions.
Ability to prototype in code, integrating prototypes into shipped work.
Hands-on use of AI coding tools like Cursor or Claude Code.
Experience designing or building AI-native product surfaces (e.g., chat, streaming UI, agent behaviors, natural language input).
Low-ego, high-agency working style.
Willingness to operate at a Staff level, setting technical and craft standards, mentoring, and influencing team processes.
