About the Role

The Research Assistant I will join the Anesthesia/Pain Research Unit to support research aimed at improving patient care, specifically focusing on perioperative medicine, sleep medicine, and pain management. This role involves data collection, regulatory compliance, and administrative support within an academic, ambulatory care hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct recruitment interviews via telephone, online, or in-person to collect data and obtain informed consent
  • Review medical records to collect research data
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Prepare submissions for the Research Ethics Board
  • Assist with manuscript preparation, including formatting, proofreading, and electronic submission
  • Conduct literature searches using health sciences databases
  • Communicate updates to the Research Coordinator, Manager, or Principal Investigator
  • Prioritize and monitor study deadlines
  • Prepare materials for proposals, progress reports, presentations, and publications
  • Manage follow-up questionnaires for participants and collaborators
  • Schedule and attend research meetings, including preparing agendas and minutes
  • Maintain electronic and paper filing systems
  • Maintain regulatory documents
  • Assist with grant writing and submission preparation
  • Perform data entry and quality control to ensure data integrity
  • Plan and design scoring procedures and research databases
  • Pilot test web-based research tools
  • Provide functional supervision to research trainees or volunteers
  • Provide general administrative support including filing, photocopying, and CV maintenance

Requirements

  • Must reside and be legally eligible to work in Ontario
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
