About the Role
Provide assistance to licensed medical providers in clinic and surgical settings. Deliver safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, and individualized patient care.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a patient advocate during exams and treatments.
- Interview patients for medical information, vital signs, weight, and height.
- Escort patients to examination, procedure, or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Record patient medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics, and test results in medical records.
- Obtain proper consent forms before patient treatment preparation.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, following safety protocols and noting expiration dates.
- Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens for testing.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, wound care, and physician instructions to patients.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and treatments, including handing instruments, giving injections, and removing sutures.
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies under Provider direction.
- Prepare and maintain cleanliness of treatment rooms for patient examinations.
- Inspect sterile items, open them, and organize supplies on the sterile field.
- Assist physicians with surgical procedures while maintaining a sterile field.
- Assess patient condition during exams, procedures, or surgery, notifying the physician and RN of distress.
- Clean rooms and medical equipment between patients and at day's end.
- Dispose of infectious waste and biohazard materials correctly.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Change wound dressings.
- Greet patients upon arrival at the office or clinic.
- Contact medical facilities to schedule patient tests and/or admissions.
- Inventory, assess, and stock instruments, supplies, and equipment in rooms.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
- Accurately document all procedures in a timely manner.
- Respond to emergency situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol, with knowledge of equipment and supplies.
- Assist physicians in patient, employee, or visitor medical emergencies and ensure proper documentation.
- Inventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly, ensuring equipment is in working order.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures, supporting high quality and customer service.
- Perform other duties as necessary or in the organization's best interest.
Requirements
- One (1)+ year experience in a medical setting (preferred).
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology (required).
- Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications.
- Detail-oriented, professional attitude, and reliable.
- Management and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow or provide verbal and written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling.
- Interpersonal skills for customer service, functional, and team support.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving.
- Basic to intermediate computer operation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position.
- General understanding of HIPAA guidelines.
