About the Role
This role involves preparing tissue and sectioning material for educational slide manufacturing, with performance assessed on slide quality and production efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Prepare tissue and sectioning material for educational slide manufacturing.
- Control microtome and other technical equipment, adjusting as necessary.
- Affix specimens to glass, meeting technical criteria for placement and orientation.
- Stain specimens, following and adjusting steps to display critical structures for teaching.
- Permanently mount specimens without introducing air.
- Investigate and solve production or quality problems.
- Collaborate with expeditor and Senior Technicians to meet customer needs.
- Plan and decide how to achieve production and quality goals.
- Investigate and interpret specimen structure and quality for trial specimens.
- Maintain personal lab space, participate in recycling, and maintain shared equipment.
Requirements
- Science degree.
- Well-organized and capable of handling multiple projects.
- Effective team player.
- Knowledge of normal/optimal specimen structure and quality.
- Knowledge of general lab procedures, including staining.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot procedural problems.
- Knowledge of general laboratory safety and hazardous chemicals.
- Ability to independently plan and organize time to meet production goals.
- Ability to accurately follow multi-step procedures.
- High level of motor skill, manual dexterity, and patience.
- Basic computer skills, including word processing and familiarity with Windows 98 and 2000.
- Customer service abilities, including friendliness, a positive attitude, and phone etiquette.
- Ability to perform sedentary work, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects under 10 lbs.
