About the Role

Act as the primary scientific/clinical resource to Opinion Leaders (OLs), Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs), and other healthcare providers. Execute Amgen Medical function and product strategy, as led by MSL Leadership, to provide accurate information and improve patient outcomes. This is a field-based position within the U.S. Medical team, reporting to the Obesity MSL Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Engage Opinion Leaders, community healthcare providers, and Population Health Decision Makers in peer-to-peer activities to advance the scientific platform.
  • Engage with clinical investigators and sites to support the obesity pipeline.
  • Communicate scientific data, outcomes, and economic data to Population Health Decision Makers within assigned IDNs and institutions.
  • Connect external and internal stakeholders to enhance patient reach and access.
  • Conduct in-depth scientific exchange, providing focused and balanced clinical and scientific information consistent with MSL compliance standards.
  • Support Amgen sponsored research and potentially serve as a study lead.
  • Liaise with potential investigators for non-sponsored clinical research.
  • Provide field observations and insights to internal stakeholders to inform Amgen strategies.
  • Lead and support congress activities.
  • Support speaker training and ensure speakers are updated on new data.
  • Lead or participate in project teams supporting MSL strategies and tactics.
  • Partner across Amgen field roles to create a coordinated customer experience.
  • Instill passion and motivate healthcare providers to improve patient care by closing care gaps.
  • Mentor other Medical Science Liaisons as designated by leadership.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities and training (e.g., Veeva CRM, expense reports, compliance modules) in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and improve clinical/scientific acumen and expertise with current data and healthcare trends.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders and effectively communicate scientific data.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree & 2 years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Master’s degree & 6 years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Bachelor’s degree & 8 years of Medical Affairs experience
  • Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D. or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered)
  • Seven or more years in a medically related field, including 1 year focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research
  • Experience in a medically related field can include post-doctoral training (i.e., residencies and/or fellowships)
  • 2+ years in a medical science liaison role in a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Current experience in Scientific Affairs or Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company
  • Cardiometabolic and/or Obesity expertise
  • Experience with designated territory
