About the Role

The Community Worker supports community engagement, advocacy initiatives, food security and Community Kitchen programming, outreach, and general administrative operations. This role is ideal for a student with a strong interest in community development, advocacy, research, program implementation and promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support within The Stops Advocacy Drop In setting.
  • Assists Community Members with completing necessary government forms such as Housing, CPP, Disability, Immigration etc.
  • Conducts participatory surveys with community members to gather input for advocacy priorities.
  • Researches government programs, community trends, and policy changes that may impact residents.
  • Maintains organized digital records for the Advocacy Office, supporting documentation and participant tracking.
  • Supports the planning, setup, and facilitation of educational workshops, and Community Kitchen sessions.
  • Stocks, sorts, packs, and distributes food hampers and essential goods for the Food Hamper (Health Beginnings) Program.
  • Participates in the implementation of a monthly outreach strategy, tracking efforts and results.
  • Creates promotional and educational material for the community (digital and text copy) utilizing effective materials and methods to reach all groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Assists in coordinating and delivering food security–related events.
  • Organizes files and prepares digital records.
  • Supports documentation, participant tracking, and general administrative tasks.
  • Attends team meetings and contributes to planning and program discussions.

Requirements

  • Meets all Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements.
  • Experience in community outreach, program planning, and event coordination.
  • Ability to create clear and engaging outreach materials both online and in person.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with marginalized communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication, initiative, and organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression principles.
