About the Role

Within Fanshawe College, our Academic Upgrading team empowers adult learners to take the next step toward college, apprenticeship, employment, and personal success. The Technologist provides intake, assessment, outreach, and administrative support for adults requiring academic upgrading services, developing and monitoring individualized training plans, facilitating workshops, and assisting learners.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students in academic upgrading programs by facilitating learning and related activities
  • Demonstrates, supports, and explains the application of theory to students
  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates workshops
  • Provides remedial assistance
  • Develops learner training plans with applicants/students and tracks milestones and outcomes
  • Facilitates practical skills in small groups, class, and individual activities
  • Attends and participates in operational and academic meetings
  • Reviews and supports the literacy/numeracy/employability skills of students using prescribed diagnostic tools
  • Schedules and invigilates student assessment sessions
  • Liaises with faculty, students, community agencies, and other college areas/departments for referral purposes
  • Conducts weekly outreach to Employment Ontario services within the City of London
  • Maintains annual planning cycle calendar
  • Monitors program success with a student success plan
  • Monitors student attendance, follows up on disengagement, and supports success
  • Administers diagnostic tools, providing recommendations and referrals
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-secondary 3-year diploma in Mathematics/ Adult Education /Science/ Communication
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience demonstrating active listening, communication, patience, problem-solving, adaptability, and time management
  • Experience with Adult Learners, ESL, including facilitating workshops
  • Experience working within the Get SET mandate is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated adaptability and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong math and numeracy skills would be considered an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to perform work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus, as required
