About the Role

Parallel Bio is building the first scaled engine for generating real human biological data to fundamentally change how medicines are discovered. This role is the highest scientific authority, crafting strategies that dictate the company's experimental capacity, disease pursuits, and drugging approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Aim the engine, owning the prioritization of therapeutic areas, indications, and targets.
  • Build the scientific roadmap that shapes what every other team works on.
  • Direct disease modeling with the R&D team, determining model requirements and success metrics.
  • Validate the science with the Platform team, ensuring data makes biological sense.
  • Pick targets with the AI/ML team, leading benchmarking and validation of model output.
  • Partner closely with Business Development to identify opportunities and shape commercial positioning.
  • Drive in-licensing of drug assets, ensuring strong platform-drug fit.
  • Build the public scientific narrative through patents, publications, and external communications.
  • Decide internal drug discovery programs as the platform matures.

Requirements

  • An acknowledged leader in human immunology with a PhD in a related biomedical or bioengineering discipline.
  • Credible experience across numerous sub-fields of immunology (e.g., cancer, autoimmunity, infectious disease, allergy).
  • Broad knowledge across innate and adaptive immunity.
  • A scientific communicator fluent in writing papers, giving keynotes, drafting patent strategies, and briefing executives.
  • A pharma market expert with knowledge of major immunology drug discovery markets and pipelines.
  • Understanding of small molecule, biologic, and cell therapy drug discovery.
  • A pre-IND regulatory expert understanding FDA operations at discovery and translational stages.
  • VP-caliber leadership: opinionated, decisive, and comfortable with high-stakes judgment calls.
  • Energized by the bet on human-first drug discovery and calling the scientific shots.
  • Comfort with data-heavy drug discovery platforms or computational biology (bonus).
  • Knowledge of NAMs or other advanced in vitro systems (bonus).

About the Company

  • Drug discovery has a translation problem: more than 95% of drugs that succeed in animal models fail in humans.
  • Parallel Bio is building the alternative: human-first drug discovery, powered by organoids and AI, running on real human biology from the very first experiment.
  • Our platform is 87% concordant with clinical patient data, a vast improvement over the 3% translational success rate of animals.
  • We've demonstrated the ability to model immunotoxicology, immunogen stimulation, and two autoimmune diseases.
  • Numerous pharma partners including 3 Fortune 500 companies are already using the platform.
  • We've raised ~$30M from AIX Ventures, Marc Benioff, Jeff Dean, and Y Combinator.
  • The FDA Modernization Act 3.0 and the FDA's March 2026 validation framework provide regulatory tailwinds.
  • The opportunity ahead of the company is generational: build the first scaled engine for generating real human biological data, and use it to fundamentally change how medicines are discovered.
  • The platform can model essentially any aspect of human immunology: infectious disease, cancer, autoimmunity, allergy, transplantation, and beyond.
  • We are scaling toward fully autonomous data factories generating petabytes of human biological data per day.

Equal Opportunity

  • Parallel Bio is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.
  • We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.
