About the Role
Camp Towhee is seeking a Healthcare Supervisor to oversee the health and wellness needs of campers and staff. This role involves managing the Health Centre, supervising a Healthcare Assistant, and acting as a primary first responder in emergencies. The position offers valuable experience in children's healthcare, mental health, and learning disabilities within a rewarding camp environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing medical and emotional care to campers and staff.
- Act as a primary first responder in serious medical emergencies.
- Discern physical and psychosomatic distress and implement appropriate interventions.
- Provide mental and physical health education to campers and staff.
- Administer camper medications as required.
- Organize and operate the Health Centre in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Supervise the Healthcare Assistant, including professional development and performance appraisals.
- Participate in the Towhee Supervisor Team, contributing to staff training, team building, and risk management.
- Provide insight on a camper's physical, emotional, mental, and social state.
- Assist in other camp areas by providing direct support and supervision during mealtimes, evening programs, bedtime, and night supervision.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of special, camp-wide theme programs and activities.
- Adhere to and interpret Camp Towhee policies, practices, and procedures for staff and campers.
Requirements
- Minimum completion of two years of a healthcare-related post-secondary degree (nursing, paramedic, etc.).
- Three or more years of healthcare-related post-secondary education strongly preferred.
- Practical experience in providing healthcare/first aid (e.g., lifeguarding, ski patrol, first responder, hospital placement).
- Previous professional experience working within a camp environment strongly preferred.
- Experience working with children and/or youth.
- Standard First Aid with CPR C or greater certification.
- Must have/acquire a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with diverse groups.
- Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check OR Board Record Check.
- All employees are required to be fully vaccinated against measles.
