About the Role
The Witness Assistance Service (WAS) is a specialist unit within the ODPP that supports victims of crime and vulnerable witnesses through the criminal justice process. The role focuses on minimizing stress and re-traumatization for victims and witnesses, ensuring they can provide evidence effectively, and meeting the Office's obligations under the NSW Charter of Victims’ Rights.
Responsibilities
- Deliver professional assistance for vulnerable victims and witnesses of crime and their families involved in serious matters.
- Minimize stress and potential re-traumatization for victims and witnesses involved in the criminal justice system.
- Assist the prosecution by ensuring witnesses have the opportunity to provide evidence to the best of their ability.
- Ensure the Office meets its obligations under the NSW Charter of Victims’ Rights.
Requirements
- Valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance.
- Degree qualifications in Social Work.
- Consent to a Criminal History Record check.
