About the Role
As a Trader reporting to the Senior Trader, you will support the interest rate derivatives and FX trading desk, providing liquidity and market-making services to credit unions across Canada. You will trade various products, build models, improve processes, and deliver analytics, while supporting trading operations, technology projects, and product development in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Execute and clear institutional trades across the interest rate derivatives and FX portfolios, maintaining high accuracy in fast-paced market conditions.
- Monitor and mitigate post-trade risk through active portfolio consolidation and rigorous limit monitoring.
- Ensure that deals are structured and managed within the parameters outlined in the Market Risk Policy and Investment Standard.
- Ensure all account documentation and actions taken meet with Central 1 and external regulatory compliance requirements.
- Participate in various department initiatives and special projects.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with other departments.
- Prepare, monitor and enhance front office PnL and risk reporting.
- Work collectively with other departments to ensure accurate data flow and reporting.
- Design and implement tools used for position and business management.
- Maintain, enhance and develop business models and business analytics.
- Provide accurate and competitive product pricing to credit union and institutional clients.
- Maintain and manage active coverage with Canadian bank dealers to ensure competitive pricing and liquidity access.
- Actively monitor global and domestic macroeconomic trends to anticipate shifts in the Canadian yield curve and FX markets.
Requirements
- University degree in economics/finance and/or quantitative discipline.
- 5+ years financial management experience with excellent understanding of fixed income and derivative markets.
- Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong quantitative techniques, analytical skills and significant trading experience relating to fixed income securities and financial derivatives.
- Strong competency in MS Office, with particular attention to Excel.
- Strong competency in programming and data management.
- Demonstrated analytical and quantitative abilities, as well as the ability to research and organize information into coherent recommendations and actions.
- Solid understanding of capital markets and interest in learning to trade and manage capital markets products.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to support cross-department and divisional interaction and working relationships.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member; while concurrently managing a variety of tasks.
- Accuracy is critical in this function and will have a material impact on Central 1’s performance.
