About the Role

This role is responsible for obtaining correct HS classification of goods for customs release, verifying tariff treatment, and ensuring all entries are properly entered at the Release on Minimum Documentation Duplicated (RMD) level for Other Government Departments (OGD/PGA). The position also involves conducting CLVS Rating and confirmation, setting up entries on ACROSS and paper, and reviewing/updating databases with clearance and client information.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains correct HS classification of goods for customs release from database, tariff book, internet or customer
  • Verifies tariff treatment at CAD level to determine if proper tariff treatment is applied
  • Uses the electronic internet program to obtain necessary information if an import permit is required
  • Ensures all entries are properly entered at Release on Minimum Documentation Duplicated (RMD) level for Other Government Departments (OGD/PGA) such as CFIA, Natural Resources & Ministry of Transport
  • Conducts CLVS Rating and confirmation - SIMA, V-Type, OIC, ETC.
  • Sets up entries on ACROSS and occasionally on paper which also includes seeking AIRS codes for CFIA, Y-50’s and Voluntary entries
  • Reviews and updates CED Desktop and FXG Hit list databases with clearance and client information
  • Reviews and updates FBC for document retrieval and Kickbacks
  • Verifies that shipments are Customs released & advises clients of shipment status when necessary
  • Enters shipment data into computer system, obtains credit release and ensures entry is transmitted to customs
  • Ensures that option 161 (rejects) are checked throughout the day on a regular basis
  • Completes and submits CADEX report, CADEX rejects day 5, 4, 3 to customs and checks CADEX report for day 4 & 5 entries to ensure completion on time
  • Completes 301 rating list for CLVS
  • Communicates with internal departments to obtain required permits
  • Performs any other duties as advised by Manager

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of College required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Release Analyst with a Certified Customs Specialist Designation
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, office equipment (fax machine/ photocopiers / printers / scanners)
  • Knowledge of the AS 400 system would be an asset
  • Excellent communication, organizational and inter-personal skills
  • Continuous keyboarding and regular communication with Customers, Government Departments, and internal department employees via the telephone, fax and email
