About the Role

The Gas Transmission and Distribution department manages natural gas transmission and distribution operations, focusing on safety, compliance, customer service, and operational efficiency. This includes maintaining and operating extensive pipeline systems, storage facilities, compressor stations, and measurement facilities. The Operations Leadership role involves managing teams for gas transmission and distribution system operations and maintenance, including unplanned, emergent, and mandated program work. Leaders ensure safe gas services, compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and promote a safety culture to improve safety, reliability, and affordability.

Responsibilities

Manage a team of gas craft employees, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements and company values.
Ensure timely and safe completion of gas maintenance, construction, transmission, regulatory work, and damage control.
Manage emergency responses, ensuring timely employee response and quality service.
Monitor compliance to standards and specifications for high-quality work.
Develop and track action plans to address process or employee skill deficiencies.
Ensure work execution within scope, schedule, and cost expectations.
Identify and implement productivity improvements to reduce operating costs while meeting compliance.
Complete and maintain all work documentation and reporting.
Communicate business goals and objectives to the work group and ensure accountability.
Develop the business knowledge and technical skills of field employees.
Foster teamwork within and across company functions.
Ensure customer needs and expectations are met through clear, proactive communication.
Implement and enforce safety best practices and adherence to the safety accountability model.
Ensure full compliance with the Injury & Illness Prevention Program.
Facilitate weekly team meetings, tailboards, and adjunct training.
Oversee projects and 2nd party contracting within the area of responsibility.
Ensure mandated compliance dates and regulations are met.
Review leak investigation documents and leak survey maps for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure compliance with leak grading and L&M & Leak Survey tools and equipment as required by the CPUC.
Lead root-cause investigations on all PG&E at-fault dig-ins and reportable events.
Monitor the Gas Operator Qualification (OQ) Program and ensure compliance.
Maintain craft qualification records for employees, such as welding and plastic fusion, as required by CPUC.
Ensure all associated paperwork and work packages are accurate.
Review all department maintenance documents for accuracy and completeness.
Complete all unplanned, emergent work.
Execute required Operations & Maintenance, leak repair, corrosion remediation, and patrolling work.
Document completed work for Engineering to update Enterprise Systems (GIS).
Make minor adjustments to achieve the workplan (less than 10% variation).
Communicate scope, schedule, and cost concerns to Resource Management.
Manage pressure regulation, odorization, and instrumentation assets.
Inform Asset Management of future needs for the yearly Asset Plan.
Address emergency situations as a first responder.
Forecast Emergency Work, Maintenance Work, Leak Survey, and Leak Repair.
Fulfill Incident Commander role during emergencies.
Develop workforce strategy (internal & external).
Inspect and validate work.

Requirements

High-School Diploma or GED
5 years of relevant experience in utility, maintenance, construction, operations, logistics, or service planning
CA Driver’s License
Subject to random DOT drug and alcohol testing
Ability to travel regularly to projects and visit employees in the field within the assigned geographic area
Ability to stand on and conduct emergency on-call duties
Ability to work unusual hours in emergency situations

Skills

Leadership experience (e.g., crew foreman)
Experience leading union-represented employees
Utility industry experience
