About the Role

Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games. The Safety Processing team builds infrastructure and decision systems for accurate, efficient, and fair content moderation at scale. The Enforce Squad, a new team within Safety Processing, is responsible for systems that translate safety decisions into real-world actions like bans, warnings, content removal, and legally mandated reporting. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own, stabilize, scale, and evolve Discord's complex and critical enforcement systems.

Responsibilities

Own high-impact projects within complex distributed systems to scale Discord Safety.
Improve production services processing millions of enforcement decisions daily, including 24/7 on-call rotation participation.
Apply an adversarial mindset to anticipate abuse patterns, edge cases, and failure modes in enforcement systems, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and legal compliance.
Partner with Trust & Safety, Policy, ML, Data Science, and Legal teams to deliver enforcement changes.
Contribute to measurement foundations by defining and baselining enforcement metrics with Data Science.

Requirements

4+ years of professional software engineering experience, focused on backend services and infrastructure.
Strong programming skills in Python.
Experience building and operating distributed systems and production services at scale (GCP, PostgreSQL, Redis, Pub/Sub, KKV, gRPC).
Demonstrated ability to own projects end-to-end and deliver results on time, even in ambiguous environments.
Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate complex, multi-service codebases.
Demonstrated adversarial thinking to anticipate misuse, edge cases, and system vulnerabilities.
Experience with 24/7 on-call rotations.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, including experience working with Trust & Safety, Policy, Legal, or Operations stakeholders.
Experience using Gen AI products, like Claude Code, in daily workflow.
