About the Role
The Mill Manager plans, directs, and coordinates safe facility operations. This role ensures and improves performance, productivity, efficiency, quality, and profitability across departmental and organizational operations through effective methods and strategies. Responsibilities also include Engineering/Maintenance, Technical Services, and Supply Chain Management.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, manage, and monitor departmental performance.
- Prepare and control operational budgets and inventory.
- Plan effective operational strategies for financial well-being.
- Improve processes and policies to support organizational goals.
- Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize output.
- Monitor adherence to policies, regulations, and procedures.
- Coordinate and monitor work across production, engineering, technical development/services, and supply chain management.
- Monitor performance and implement improvements.
- Ensure product quality.
- Manage employee productivity quality and quantity.
- Manage equipment and machinery maintenance.
- Provide technical support as necessary.
- Liaise with Business leadership.
- Develop strategic plans for operational excellence.
- Develop, implement, manage, and execute operational plans.
- Drive initiatives to improve productivity, capacity, and reduce production costs.
- Select, develop, and manage workforce supervision and management to optimize human resources.
- Assure compliance with ISO 9000 quality standards and procedures.
- Analyze and control optimal use of materials, labor, and equipment to improve productivity, increase quality, and ensure employee safety and health.
- Analyze and plan capital spending needs, recommend capital as part of annual business planning, and manage effective expenditure of approved capital funds.
- Direct capital allocation, spending, and execution to ensure projects meet results timely and cost-effectively.
- Successfully implement major and minor capital projects.
- Support and direct engineering, maintenance, and utility needs.
- Build and maintain positive employee relations.
- Continuously improve communication channels.
- Develop manufacturing capability for commercial production of new and modified products.
- Actively lead and support continuous improvement processes at the location.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and health laws and regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date general knowledge of the paper industry and relevant technological changes.
- Identify, evaluate, and execute key growth opportunities.
- Perform other strategic projects as assigned by Leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Pulp & Paper Science, or a related technical field.
- Five to ten years’ experience managing major manufacturing functions of a paper mill or closely related experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated successful managerial skills.
- Exposure to capital project development and implementation in the paper industry.
- Ability to troubleshoot operational and process issues.
- Ability to respond to operational call-ins when necessary.
