About the Role
This position is responsible for underwriting a diverse book of business, employing the methods necessary to meet projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals. The role involves management and growth of the overall portfolio of business within the appropriate underwriting discipline/guidelines, and marketing and servicing of existing and potential insureds. A basic knowledge of Property insurance is required to assist with the underwriting of Commercial Combined business.
Responsibilities
- Perform general underwriting functions including submission review, pricing analysis, setting terms and conditions, and quote/binder/invoice authorizations
- Ensure timely and correct issuance of bound policies
- Craft endorsement wordings for legal authorization
- Provide direction to Underwriting Support Assistant for timely processing of policy/endorsement wordings
- Perform referrals with VP Casualty and SVP Casualty as required
- Maintain underwriting files and reporting systems according to guidelines
- Consult with Actuarial Department for specific account pricing when appropriate
- Liaise with Claims Department on specific claim matters and market claim concerns
- Stay current with industry issues and developments
- Travel to meetings throughout Ireland and Europe as required
- Assist in training underwriting and support staff
- Complete project work as required
- Plan and monitor business portfolio
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
- 5 years experience underwriting Casualty accounts in Irish or European Retail/Wholesale market
- Spanish Speaking preferable
- Basic knowledge of underwriting Property accounts
- Strong marketing, negotiation and presentation skills
- Excellent knowledge of standard market policy and endorsement wordings
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work
- Effective interpersonal skills and teamwork ability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
- Good knowledge of technical rating tools
