About the Role
This role involves expediting material movement between production areas, coordinating material delivery schedules, and safely operating equipment like forklifts, hoists, and cranes. The Material Handler ensures efficient flow of goods and adherence to all safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Expedite movement of parts and material between production areas.
- Prepare and coordinate schedules for pulling and delivering materials.
- Safely operate material handling equipment including forklifts, hoists, and cranes.
- Follow all safety rules and practices.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and reports.
- Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts.
- Ensure proper stock rotation.
- Key inventory adjustments in the computer system.
- Unload trucks, trailers, and containers, counting products.
- Compare inbound shipments to manifests, checking for damage, infestation, or production code dates.
- Report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments on appropriate forms.
- Sign for inbound shipments when necessary.
- Move inbound shipments safely to storage locations for efficient stacking.
- Ensure correct product number, quantity, and type (lot, batch, serial number) are picked for orders.
- Transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using material handling equipment (e.g., fork trucks, cherry pickers, pallet jacks).
- Label, stencil, tag, mark, band, bundle, wrap, over-pack, and palletize orders as required.
- Compare quantity, labeling, and address with orders to ensure outgoing shipments are complete and correct.
- Assign signatures for outbound shipments as necessary.
- Efficiently move product, cartons, and pallets into trailers, rail cars, or containers.
- Maintain equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently, complying with company standards and OSHA requirements.
- Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions.
- Repair and consolidate damaged goods as required.
- Operate shrink-wrap machine.
- Charge forklift batteries as needed.
- Stack and separate good from bad pallets.
- Clean railcars, trailers, and truck docks/bays as requested.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0-1 year of warehouse experience with inventory.
- OSHA Forklift experience.
- Basic computer skills.
- Familiarity with warehouse systems (WMS - SAP, RF units).
- Ability to handle stress from meeting deadlines with tight scheduling requirements.
- Ability to shift priorities easily.
- Ability to use hands and feet simultaneously for repetitive movements.
- Responsible work habits.
- Availability to work shifts and occasional weekends.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds using proper techniques.
- Ability to follow directions with emphasis on safety.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret SOPs, coverage documents, and regulations.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to meet people and listen.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
- Ability to perform arithmetic operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance measurement.
- Understanding of metric system measurements is beneficial.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
