About the Role
The Visual Art teacher joins a collaborative Humanities division, supporting students in developing creative expression, artistic confidence, and risk-taking. This role involves instruction in art elements, color theory, painting, drawing, and mixed media techniques. ICA Cristo Rey Academy is a Dominican Catholic college preparatory school empowering girls from underserved communities through an excellent academic curriculum, corporate work study, and spiritual community, preparing them for lives of faith, purpose, and service.
Responsibilities
- Teach five sections for grades 9-12, designing lessons, projects, and assessments to foster active learning.
- Plan instruction to meet diverse learner needs across intellectual and social development levels.
- Cultivate a positive, challenging, and equitable learning environment aligned with ICA’s mission for diverse students.
- Foster anti-racist, anti-bias education, multicultural teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction, Division Chair, and colleagues to develop engaging, aligned curricula.
- Provide academic support outside class time, including office hours and email communication.
- Coordinate with Deans, Director of Guidance, colleagues, and parents/guardians to support student performance.
- Engage productively in faculty, division, and collaborative team meetings.
- Participate in student life by chaperoning events, attending athletics, moderating clubs, or serving on committees.
- Maintain student safety by supervising study halls, break/lunch periods, and providing substitute coverage.
- Participate in admissions, enrollment events, HR training, and other assigned duties to advance ICA’s mission.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in subject area.
- Strong knowledge of academic, socio-emotional, and life skills for college readiness.
- Experience working with and appreciation for adolescents.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Ability to effectively use technology for efficiency, communication, and organization in classroom and workplace.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, climb stairs, and work at desk and computer for extended periods.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
