About the Role
This internship position reports to the GIS Administrator, applying GIS skills to provide mapping and analysis services to internal customers and the public.
Requirements
- Significant coursework in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with GIS software through internships or class projects
- Technical competency with ESRI software
- Demonstrated GIS skills including map creation, general computer usage, GIS analysis, and database manipulation
- Database experience manipulating GIS data, integrating various data formats, and organizing data using products such as ArcSDE, MS Access, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostGIS
- Basic understanding of web-based applications and services including HTML, XML, and JavaScript
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid Driver’s License
Skills
- Ability to collaborate with GIS Administrator on map and analytical solution production
- Knowledge of cartographic principles and GIS analytical concepts
- Ability to apply GIS software for cartographic and analytical solutions
- Knowledge of database principles and data formats
- Ability to organize, process, and analyze data using database principles for GIS solutions
- Strong written and oral communication skills for team collaboration
- Ability to work independently, identify needs for additional expertise, and communicate effectively with GIS Administrator
- Data collection skills (on-screen digitizing, GPS fieldwork, coordinate geometry)
- Ability to learn and expand technical knowledge
