About the Role
As Scripted Editor at Early Media, you will be a creative collaborator, shaping the rhythm, structure, and emotional arc of scripted content. This role involves editing across a slate of 10 vertical series for a 13-30 year old audience, focusing on premium quality entertainment for a new medium. You will report to the Post Supervisor within the shared post-production team, supported by an Assistant Editor. The position requires strong organizational instincts and an efficient workflow due to high volume, seeking a candidate who brings both craft and voice to the edit suite.
Responsibilities
- Own the editorial process on assigned scripted projects, from assembly through picture lock, delivering high-quality cuts on time.
- Function as a creative collaborator, actively contributing to story structure, pacing, and emotional resonance.
- Edit across vertical (9:16) and mixed format content, with an instinct for audience attention on relevant platforms.
- Work closely with Directors and Scripted Producers throughout the post process, from first assembly to final delivery.
- Understand pacing for a young audience, sustaining engagement across various formats.
- Manage the edit pipeline with Assistant Editor support, organizing media and maintaining efficient workflow.
- Coordinate with the Post Supervisor on scheduling, deliverables, and technical decisions.
- Collaborate with color, sound, VFX, and other post vendors, ensuring clear notes and timely finishing work.
- Contribute to the development of post-production standards at Early Media.
Requirements
- Strong editorial portfolio in scripted content (series, short-form, or both) demonstrating storytelling instincts and technical command.
- Proficiency in industry-standard editing software (Premiere Pro preferred).
- Fluency editing in vertical (9:16) format or demonstrated ability to think natively about frame, composition, and pacing in portrait orientation.
- Experience working collaboratively with directors and producers throughout the post process as a creative voice.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple high-volume projects without losing quality or momentum.
- Genuine understanding of what captures and holds the attention of 13–30 year old audiences.
- Experience editing content natively designed for TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, or similar platforms (Nice to Have).
- Familiarity with social platform delivery specs, aspect ratio requirements, and how technical decisions affect algorithmic performance (Nice to Have).
- Experience managing or mentoring an Assistant Editor (Nice to Have).
- Background in both short-form and long-form scripted content, comfortable shifting between formats and episode lengths (Nice to Have).
- Knowledge of color grading, sound design, or VFX workflows sufficient to communicate clearly with post vendors and finishing teams (Nice to Have).
- Experience at an early-stage production company or digital studio where post infrastructure was still being built (Nice to Have).
