About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Development Manager to lead MaintainX's Platform division, which includes seven foundational teams. This manager-of-managers role is ideal for someone looking to shape the operational strategy of a high-growth engineering organization at scale.
Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap and operating model for Platform Engineering, setting division-level priorities and managing cross-team dependencies.
- Translate business goals into multi-quarter platform investments.
- Lead and develop a team of Software Development Managers, coaching them on people development, technical judgment, and organizational effectiveness.
- Set engineering standards for all product teams, including framework conventions, reliability targets, compliance posture, and CI/CD health.
- Drive the company's AI-native platform strategy, ensuring the organization leverages AI Builder teams effectively.
- Own division-level reliability, including SLO definitions, incident response frameworks, and on-call health.
- Partner with the CTO and peer engineering leaders on organizational design, architectural decisions, and headcount planning.
- Represent Platform Engineering to the business, communicating the impact of infrastructure investments on engineering velocity, developer experience, and customer trust.
Requirements
- 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years in engineering leadership.
- 2+ years managing managers across multiple teams.
- Technical depth in at least two of: distributed systems, backend or mobile frameworks, platform engineering, reliability engineering.
- Track record of owning platform or infrastructure-focused teams at a growth-stage B2B SaaS company.
- Demonstrated impact on engineering velocity.
- Experience setting direction for teams building on LLMs and agentic workflows.
- Systems thinker capable of identifying and eliminating organizational bottlenecks.
- Strong communicator able to articulate platform complexity and tradeoffs to various stakeholders.
