About the Role

Block by Block California employs Ambassadors to enhance public spaces, making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities served. This Cleaning Ambassador role offers high visibility at street level, performing various cleaning tasks while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. It's an excellent opportunity for retirees, veterans, and graduating high school seniors seeking their first job.

Responsibilities

Provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile to provide directions and/or city information.
Remove litter (fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris) from streets, sidewalks, and alleys using a rolling trash can with supplies/tools.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, and news boxes.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces, such as trash can lids and news boxes.
Monitor for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.

Requirements

CA Driver's License with Clean Driving Record is required.
One year of cleaning experience preferred.
Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug test.
Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
