About the Role
SYSTRA Canada is seeking a Hydrogeology Specialist to join a large Rail & Transit Project team, reporting to the Environmental Head. This role involves overseeing investigations, developing scope and schedules, leading expert teams for due diligence, and integrating environmental design across technical disciplines.
Responsibilities
- Completes the review of previously completed investigations and reporting.
- Identifies data gaps and commitments and oversees the development of the investigation scope and schedule.
- Leads the subject matter expert team tasked to complete Due Diligence work and reporting.
- Incorporates requirements into design.
- Confirms that requirements and commitments are executed.
- Leads environmental design integration across all technical disciplines for the project corridor.
- Oversees environmental approvals strategy and ensures compliance with EA commitments, permits, and regulatory conditions.
- Coordinates with design teams, construction leads, and regulators to resolve environmental risks.
- Responsible for environmental deliverables (including EMPs), schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Requirements
- 10-15 years of work-related experience on projects of similar size, scope, and complexity.
- Experience with and understanding of the application and interpretation of Canadian Standards Association (CAN/CSA Z768 and CAN/CSA Z769) investigation criteria and criteria relating to the assessment of contaminated lands.
- Experience with and understanding of the application and interpretation of Ontario Regulation 153/04 and Ontario Regulation 406/19, and investigation criteria relating to the assessment of contaminated lands.
- Experience in designing, implementing and overseeing: groundwater management plans; Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments; groundwater characterization programs; vapour intrusion assessments; remedial action plans groundwater and/or surface water; site inspection and monitoring programs for construction activities; and Dewatering/Unwatering effluent treatment and discharge strategies.
- Knowledge of risk assessment procedures and requirements.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and Ontario policies, procedures and legislation, including waste management and related legislation, regulations, guidelines and policies for water protection and materials management.
- Ability to liaise with other specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities.
- Ability to delegate and supervise required specialist responsibilities as needed.
- Experience with similar projects in the Province of Ontario.
