About the Role

This role within Mace's consult business focuses on delivering cost management services across various sectors, from project inception to completion. It involves applying sound technical expertise to contribute to effective cost planning, control, and successful project delivery, supporting feasibility, cost planning, and procurement throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility studies, advise on procurement strategies and contract selection, and prepare procurement reports.
  • Apply value management techniques at project inception.
  • Manage estimating and cost planning activities, including presenting the final cost plan.
  • Assist in the procurement and selection of main contractors.
  • Prepare contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses, and assist with formal execution.
  • Advise on the administration of building contract terms.
  • Measure and provide valuations of work, adjust variations, and agree with contractors.
  • Provide cost control and reporting services during the contract.
  • Prepare financial reports for clients as required.
  • Identify all costs related to design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges.
  • Participate in evaluating claims for delay and additional costs from contractors and subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Advise on practical completion certificates and ensure final accounts are negotiated and agreed.
  • Advise on certificates of making good defects and final completion.
  • Deliver improvements in systems and processes, driving transformational change.
  • Provide guidance and direction to Assistant Cost Consultants and junior team members.
  • Provide informal mentoring and training to junior team members.
  • Seek opportunities for continuous improvements in working processes.
  • Develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively towards net zero carbon transition, identifying and managing associated carbon emissions and reductions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in cost consultancy.
  • Cost planning, budgeting, and estimating experience.
  • Sound understanding of costs, timescales, and risk implications.
  • Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Professional membership or working towards MRICS/RICS (or equivalent).
  • Proficient knowledge and expertise in specific project sector/market.
  • Relevant technical qualification/certification for project portfolio.
  • Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on Contract Administration and Contract Management.
  • Effective communication with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to seek opportunities for implementing improved working practices.
  • Ability to manage relevant project stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
