About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Controller to cover a 12-month maternity leave within a professional services/consulting environment. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a sharp technical accounting background, comfort working independently, and the confidence to manage the full finance function from day-to-day operations to executive reporting.
Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle accounting: GL, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Prepare and present accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with regulations
- Manage payroll end-to-end across our various entities
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensure cash flow accuracy and timeliness
- Maintain and optimize QuickBooks Online for day-to-day accounting operations
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes
- Prepare and file HST/GST, payroll remittances, and other regulatory submissions
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners as required
- Support leadership with financial insights and ad hoc analysis to inform business decisions
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement efficiencies where applicable
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive accounting/controllership experience, ideally within professional services or consulting
- Solid working knowledge of Canadian GAAP and/or IFRS
- Hands-on ADP payroll experience required; familiarity with additional payroll platforms is an asset
- Strong Excel skills; comfortable building and maintaining financial models and reports
Skills
- CPA designation (or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online — you know it well and can work in it on day one
