About the Role

Own the backend application layer for a platform handling demanding reservations, payments, and member experiences. This senior- to staff-level role requires deep thought on system architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve backend system architecture, including proprietary software and APIs for member app and operator tools.
  • Lead architectural decisions for serverless, containerized, and event-driven approaches.
  • Own database architecture, including schema design, query performance, indexing strategy, and data integrity.
  • Define patterns for service communication, data flow, and graceful system degradation under load.
  • Drive API design for internal and external surfaces.
  • Write production-grade TypeScript and PHP.
  • Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scaling constraints, and architectural debt.
  • Champion observability across the application layer.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to scope features and prevent architectural problems.
  • Work with Platform Engineering to align application requirements with cloud environment build and scale.
  • Elevate the team through documentation, code reviews, and technical mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 6-8 years of backend engineering experience, including 1-2 years in a senior or staff role.
  • Proven track record designing and scaling production backend systems.
  • Experience launching and testing software products.
  • Deep fluency in TypeScript and PHP, database relational systems, containerized workflows, and cloud environments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, complex environment with cross-functional projects.
  • Genuine interest in Dorsia product, member experience, and hospitality-level building.
