About the Role
Maximize Grow Out Farm productivity and profit by planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities in assigned Brood or Grow Facility to meet or exceed customer specifications. This role involves documenting plans and programs, fostering positive employee morale and retention, implementing training, maintaining product volume, costs, and quality, promoting safety, and ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of company principles and philosophies within assigned farm departments.
- Assist with employee training at assigned brood/grow farm, adhering to company policies.
- Manage flocks at assigned brood/grow farm to achieve optimum poult and turkey performance.
- Assist with planning and directing farm work, including maintaining accurate records (livability, flock, checklists, bird handling, timecards, attendance).
- Manage and monitor environmental conditions for flock performance.
- Review issues with Area Production Supervisor and collaborate on solutions for flock health and comfort.
- Enforce sanitation and biosecurity procedures according to company policies.
- Maintain assigned brood/grow farm and working area in a neat and orderly condition.
- Ensure timely scheduling and ordering of feed according to mill guidelines.
- Complete company safety audits meeting or exceeding standards.
- Implement preventative maintenance and repairs for facility, equipment, and vehicles.
- Utilize Brood/Grow Manual and propose updates to enhance quality and livability.
- Annually review emergency situations and procedures (fire, standby power, weather) with employees.
- Ensure farms and personnel provide products/services meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and programs.
- Accurately and timely account for all farm/flock inputs and outputs.
- Understand technical fundamentals for turkey brooding and growing operations.
- Maintain environmental requirements for turkey potential and ensure efficient usage of resources (shavings, electricity, L.P. Gas, medications, feed).
- Assist Area Production Supervisor in developing annual profit and capital expenditure plans, setting improvement objectives.
- Conduct all necessary jobs for flock performance, including poult placement, bird transfers, and environmental sampling.
- Perform vaccination activities, including manufacturing and administration, as directed by Staff Veterinarian.
- Participate in department activities and problem-solving through meetings and teams.
- Ensure turkey handling and care adheres to animal welfare guidelines.
- Be knowledgeable of Grow Out operating procedures and specifications.
- Be knowledgeable of Basic Production sanitation procedures and policies.
- Be knowledgeable of Basic Production personnel policies and benefit programs.
- Be available 24/7, including assigned weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- Must not now, or at any time in the future, require employer sponsorship for a work visa.
- Authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Minimum 1 year of stable work history with previous employer or internal position.
- Met performance expectations in attendance, dependability, quantity, quality, behavior, and cooperation.
- Valid driver's license with good vehicle operating records.
- Good physical condition, able to wear safety protection for extended periods.
- Able to twist, stoop, bend, squat, lift, and carry at least 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work 7 days/week for up to 2 weeks at a time.
- Good math ability for farm inventory and record keeping.
- Good mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools for minor repairs.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently without supervision.
- Preferred: Four years of poultry experience with standard performance results (preferably turkeys).
- Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent.
