About the Role

The Paraeducator assists the school leader and Education Specialist by providing academic and behavior support to individual or small groups of students in special education and regular classrooms, both in-person and virtually. This role complements the instructional program to maximize student learning opportunities, helps establish appropriate classroom and school-wide behavior, and supports students in accessing all aspects of the school and community educational environment.

Responsibilities

Work with students in small groups or one-to-one to reinforce learning activities in academic, language, and specialized subject areas for in-class and distance learning.
Assist in implementing behavior intervention plans using positive reinforcement and behavior modification.
Facilitate social interactions and foster positive relationships between students with disabilities and non-disabled peers.
Model appropriate behavior and attitudes, providing emotional support and general guidance to students.
Support student participation in field trips, school assemblies, and productions.
Provide testing accommodations, including supervising students in separate locations or during extended time.
Provide student progress information to the Education Specialist through observation, daily contact, and data tracking.
Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom and learning environment.
Assist physically disabled students with personal hygiene, grooming, eating, dressing, and other self-help skills.
Report suspected health problems to appropriate school personnel.
Maintain confidentiality of student records and classroom information according to legal requirements and KIPP policies.
Maintain the instructional program during the temporary absence of the Education Specialist.
Attend and participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and Student Study Meetings.
Maintain professional standards and competence through KIPP-provided and self-directed professional growth opportunities.
Ensure consistent and on-time attendance during school work hours.
Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies.
Perform other assigned duties.

Paid or volunteer experience working with or serving individuals with academic, behavioral, or functional needs (preferred).

Possess strong content area knowledge.
Strong skills in building relationships with students, families, and communities.
Ability to communicate well with students, families, and colleagues.
Proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.).
Ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning (i.e., Zoom, Nearpod).
Bilingual in languages that reflect student populations (preferred).

Salary/Compensations

$20.92 - $24.84 / hour
Paid over a 12-month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break
Annualized pay significantly more than district peers due to additional 60 days of school break pay
