About the Role
This Associate role is on LGT Capital Partners' dedicated Primaries Team in San Francisco, designed for an investment professional to drive fund investing activity across North American private equity. The position involves market coverage, manager relationship development, investment underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and client engagement.
Responsibilities
- Lead deal origination, screening, and underwriting for North American buyout and growth equity fund opportunities.
- Support the team in identifying attractive managers and investment themes across the market.
- Cover U.S. primaries, focusing on technology, the West Coast, and impact.
- Develop informed views on market trends, manager pipelines, and sector dynamics.
- Source opportunities and build relationships with established and emerging managers.
- Maintain active dialogue with sponsors and industry participants to strengthen market access and visibility.
- Support the evaluation and execution of new fund opportunities through diligence, financial and qualitative analysis.
- Prepare investment memoranda and manage internal recommendation processes.
- Manage intake, screening, and logging of incoming opportunities.
- Conduct initial diligence and information collection.
- Contribute to the U.S. private equity primaries strategy by sharing market intelligence.
- Help shape coverage priorities and identify thematic opportunities.
- Originate co-investment and secondary opportunities through existing GP relationships.
- Ensure strong coordination across adjacent investment strategies.
- Maximize the value of sponsor connectivity.
- Work with sponsors across the value chain (co-investments, secondaries, credit) to identify deeper partnerships.
- Collaborate with co-investment, secondary, and credit colleagues to coordinate coverage and share diligence insights.
- Present a cohesive approach to GP relationship management.
- Support efforts to position LGT Capital Partners as a preferred long-term partner to GPs.
- Support portfolio monitoring activities for existing fund investments.
- Track performance developments and prepare updates.
- Assess portfolio positioning over time.
- Conduct regular monitoring and prepare portfolio updates for internal stakeholders.
- Partner with co-investment and secondary colleagues for overlapping portfolio insights.
- Ensure a coordinated view of sponsor relationships and underlying investment exposures.
- Contribute to client and prospective investor interactions by communicating team strategy and investment perspective.
- Participate in fundraising and client pitch efforts by preparing materials and contributing investment content.
- Respond to diligence questions as needed.
- Support or participate in investment update meetings with clients.
- Represent the team at industry conferences and firm events for market intelligence gathering and relationship development.
Requirements
- Two to four years of relevant experience in U.S. private equity (GP or LP), investment banking, consulting, or a closely related analytical environment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information.
- Ability to communicate conclusions clearly and concisely.
- Collaborative, low-ego team player.

- Annual base salary: $135,000.00 to $175,000.00
