About the Role
This role offers the opportunity to shape project outcomes from feasibility to completion within Mace's consult business. It involves leading advisory teams to secure and deliver complex infrastructure programs, providing strategic and technical expertise across clients, sectors, and regions, and ensuring effective execution in evolving environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide cost management services from inception to completion for ongoing and new commissions across various sectors.
- Lead advisory teams to secure and deliver complex programs from early-stage conception through feasibility.
- Provide strategic, technical expertise across clients, sectors, and regions.
- Shape delivery strategies, develop plans, and ensure effective execution in uncertain, evolving environments.
- Conduct feasibility studies, advise on procurement strategies and contract selection, and write procurement reports.
- Apply value management techniques at the outset of projects.
- Manage estimating and cost planning activities, including ownership and presentation of the final cost plan.
- Assist in the procurement and selection of main contractors.
- Prepare contract documents, warranties, bonds, and licenses, and assist formal execution.
- Advise on the administration of building contract terms.
- Measure and provide valuations of work carried out, adjust variations, and agree with contractors.
- Provide cost control and reporting services during contracts.
- Prepare financial reports for clients as required.
- Identify all costs associated with design changes, contract awards, construction activities, and client charges.
- Participate in evaluating claims for delay and additional costs from contractors and subcontractors/suppliers.
- Advise on the issue of practical completion certificates and ensure final accounts are negotiated and agreed.
- Advise on the issue of certificates of making good defects and final completion.
- Deliver improvements in systems and processes, driving transformational change.
- Provide guidance and direction to Assistant Cost Consultants and junior team members.
- Provide informal mentoring and training to junior team members.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvements and working process enhancements.
- Develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively towards net zero carbon transition, identifying and managing associated carbon emissions and reductions.
Requirements
- Cost planning, budgeting, and estimating experience.
- Sound understanding of costs, timescales, and implications of delivery risk.
- Understanding of different contract types, including measurement methods.
- Experience in most forms of contract.
- Sound knowledge and ability to undertake and advise on Contract Administration and Contract Management.
- Proficient knowledge and expertise in a specific sector or market relevant to the project/role.
- Knowledge of BIM techniques and applications (desirable).
- Capex V Opex Cost analysis/advice (desirable).
