About the Role

Leidos seeks Distribution Engineers & Designers in Rhode Island passionate about electric utility design engineering, dedicated to ensuring exceptional project quality. This role involves direct client interaction to uphold Leidos' reputation for high-quality work. Joining this role provides expertise in NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards.

Responsibilities

Perform design engineering for electric utility customers.
Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, and Make Ready using customer GIS and WMS systems (EFD, AUD, Smallworld, ArcGIS, Infor, EAM, STORMS, Maximo).
Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up.
Conduct scope analysis and maintain schedule adherence to prioritize client needs.
Initiate continuous improvement for workflow processes to enhance efficiency and quality in client design deliverables.
Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements.
Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
Develop work permits, easements, and ROW applications.
Work comfortably in both field and office settings, including local or regional customer-site visits for field data collection.
Communicate effectively with local Electricians, Utility Engineers, and Town Engineers.

Requirements

2+ years of prior relevant experience.
Bachelor's Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred), or additional relevant experience/certifications.
Demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
Ability to provide reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
