About the Role
TVO ILC is seeking passionate and knowledgeable Academic Officers to provide academic support to students inquiring about online course content and completion, specializing in Mathematics, Physics, Business, and/or Accounting.
Responsibilities
- Assist students with academic queries and course content clarifications in a timely manner.
- Liaise effectively with Academic Manager and Guidance Counsellors to optimize student support and success.
- Provide support to the Administrative Unit on any issues related to the academic content of ILC courses and course selection.
- Assess and evaluate ILC course student submissions in the teacher’s area of specialization, following Growing Success guidelines.
- Stay current on Ministry of Education updates and initiatives.
- Adhere to the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession.
- Liaise with ILC Teacher Markers in specific subject areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be an OCT certified teacher and member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers with Intermediate/Senior qualifications in Mathematics, Physics, Business and/or Accounting.
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, policies and guidelines, and legal and ethical issues related to teaching.
- Comfortable working with technology including Learning Management Systems (Brightspace), Student Records Systems and using various software applications, MS Teams, Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Solutions driven individual with excellent judgement and problem-solving abilities.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills with a demonstrated sensitivity towards a diverse group of learners.
- Excellent people skills with a proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Must have knowledge of all relevant Ministry of Education policies and documents, relevant to secondary school panel, with solid understanding of course selection, course sequencing pursuant to student educational pathways and educational options relating to distance learning.
- Experience developing and providing accommodations based on the needs of all students; including knowledge of special education, documentation, and legislation (AODA).
- Highly developed English communication skills – oral and written.
- French communication skills – oral and written are an asset.
