About the Role

Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking certified, or on the pathways toward, and experienced English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher to provide instruction to our high school students. Under the general supervision of the Principal, and also led by the ENL Coordinator, ENL teachers work collaboratively with other teachers within their department and across other content areas.

Responsibilities

• Exhibit understanding and skills relevant to the subject area(s) taught
• Make topics and activities meaningful and relevant to students
• Integrate technology resources compatible with student needs
• Develop clear, logical, and sequential lesson plans using Understanding by Design principles
• Plan with specialists to differentiate instruction for all students
• Link current content and skills with past and future learning
• Utilize various instructional strategies (modeling, cooperative learning, collaboration, reading, writing) to differentiate learning
• Employ questioning strategies to engage students and promote learning
• Monitor student understanding and adjust teaching as appropriate
• Maximize student learning through active and successful participation opportunities
• Explain content and demonstrate skills in diverse ways to meet student needs
• Hold each learner individually responsible for learning
• Use assessment results to monitor and modify instruction
• Utilize teacher-made and standardized tests to measure student performance
• Employ oral, non-verbal, and written student assessment forms
• Organize, maintain, and use student progress records for instructional decisions
• Continuously monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback
• Demonstrate competence in grading, ranking, and scoring practices for student achievement
• Use precise language and acceptable oral and written communication
• Articulate clear learning goals and instructional procedures
• Model caring, fairness, courtesy, respect, and active listening
• Model concern for students' emotional and physical well-being
• Seek and maintain positive interactions with students
• Seek information about student interests and opinions
• Enforce the school's student behavior policy
• Communicate clear behavioral expectations to students and parents

• Complete classroom and school assignments and responsibilities timely and effectively
• Participate in professional growth activities (conferences, workshops, coursework, committees, professional organizations)
• Explore and apply knowledge of new or improved instructional methods

• Initiate timely communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress or problems
• Respond promptly to parental concerns and encourage parental involvement
• Interact with parents and the community by providing useful school information

• Contribute to professional development by serving as a teacher, mentor, peer coach, or supervisor

Requirements

• At least 2 years of high school teaching experience
• NYS ENL certification preferred, or on pathway to certification
• Demonstrated success in non-traditional and/or urban school settings

Skills

• Plan, organize, develop, and conduct comprehensive teaching and instruction programs
• Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for diverse achievement levels
• Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills
• Respond appropriately to evaluation and work setting changes
• Knowledge or ability to use SIS (student information systems) or online learning platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Google Classroom)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience with educational technology (e.g., SMART Board, student laptops)

Salary/Compensations

• 75,000 - 1055,000 annually (Based on Experience)
