About the Role

This position, under general supervision, performs a variety of indoor and outdoor cleaning and maintenance activities to provide a safe, clean environment for faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair college buildings and grounds to ensure a clean, comfortable, healthy, and safe environment.
• Clean and maintain floors and carpets using various methods.
• Clean and maintain windows, skylights, ceilings, and walls.
• Clean and maintain rooms and furniture, including dusting, trash removal, and minor repairs.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring adequate supplies.
• Perform grounds work, including planting, mowing, raking, seeding, trimming, and watering.
• Clean sidewalks and parking lots, removing snow, ice, and debris.
• Assist with security and building checks to ensure premises safety.
• Secure work areas by locking doors, checking exits, setting alarms, and verifying lighting.
• Identify and address safety hazards, creating work orders as needed.
• Manage unauthorized persons or contact safety administrators.
• Turn in lost articles.
• Assist with the set up and delivery of equipment and supplies for on-campus events.
• Assemble classrooms and areas for special events.
• Assemble and relocate office furniture.
• Assist with receiving and delivering equipment and supplies.
• Perform other assigned duties to ensure departmental functioning.

Requirements

• Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions.
• Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks, lift and carry materials weighing 40-60 lbs. (and occasionally more with assistance), and work in inclement weather conditions when necessary.

• Conform to Minnesota State’s Vehicle use criteria and consent to Motor Vehicle Records check.
• Legally authorized to work in the US.

Skills

• Knowledge of flooring types and appropriate maintenance methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
• Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents for safe selection, handling, application, and disposal.
• Knowledge of maintenance methods, tools, and equipment for effective and safe use and minor repairs.
• Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
• Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited supervision.
• Ability to keep simple records.
• Current State of MN Boiler Operators License - Class A, B, C, or Special Engineer (Preferred).
• Knowledge of general methods of the mechanical, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting trades (Preferred).
• Ability to perform semi-skilled work in various trade areas and assist with more difficult work (Preferred).
• Bilingual/multilingual fluent in Spanish, Karen, Karenni, Somali, Pohnpeian, French, Anuak, Nuer, or other languages that reflect our student body, workforce, and communities (Preferred).
• Demonstrated experience working with multicultural and underserved populations (Preferred).
