About the Role

The AML/KYC Officer serves as the primary AML/KYC point of contact for the business, ensuring compliance with AML and KYC policies and procedures. This role is part of the First Line of Defense for the SSGA Japan AML and KYC programs, focusing on timely completion of KYC activities for new and existing clients, and assisting with client reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure SSGA businesses in Japan comply with State Street Global AML and Sanctions Policies, BU SOP, and Global KYC matrix requirements.
  • Oversee and ensure timely completion of KYC, including pre-onboarding, periodic reviews (PR), and event-driven reviews (EDR).
  • Provide oversight of outsourced activities, ensuring SLA adherence and acting as the business escalation point.
  • Perform transaction monitoring to detect unusual or red flag activities.
  • Act as an escalation point for PEP, AML, negative news, and sanctions screening hits, providing timely feedback on RFIs.
  • Ensure completion of Unusual Activity Reports and collaborate with the FIU on Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
  • Review and update BU SOP annually or as needed following Global AML toolkit releases.
  • Provide Business Unit AML/KYC metrics for reporting.
  • Review and understand new business products/opportunities and assess inherent risks.
  • Act as an escalation point for business KYC/AML queries.
  • Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Participate in regional committees, Global AML working groups, and training sessions.
  • Coordinate requests from Compliance and Audit teams and provide required information.

Requirements

  • University degree required.
  • 8+ years of experience in financial services, including KYC/AML experience.
  • Genuine interest in and strong understanding of financial markets.
  • Broad-based experience with a focus on risk management or audit preferred.
  • Team player and self-motivated professional with the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent Japanese and English language skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong communications and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of artificial intelligence and generative AI concepts.
  • Ability to leverage AI-enabled tools and identify opportunities for productivity improvement.
