About the Role
This role is primarily remote in California, requiring occasional appearances. The Attorney will draft complex dispositive and discovery motions, conduct legal research, and independently manage moderately complex civil litigation matters. This position demands a deep understanding of legal principles, tort law, civil procedure, strategic case management, advanced technology, and strong client relationship skills, while upholding the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance. Responsibilities
- Draft complex motions, legal research, memoranda, and dispositive and discovery motions
- Independently manage all phases of litigation for claims up to $500,000 exposure
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft precise legal documents
- Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations
- Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel in all aspects of case handling through trial
- Develop and refine advanced legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation
- Utilize advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software
- Provide legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives
- Build and sustain trusted client relationships
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys
- Design and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, and related departments
- Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff
- Ensure legal documents are meticulously prepared, accurate, and compliant with laws, regulations, and company policies
- Adhere to ethical guidelines, licensing requirements, and Model Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC)
- Identify and implement process automation and workflow enhancements
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the bar in California and in good standing
- Special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required
- Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience
- Preferably experience within insurance law and related litigation
- Proven experience managing moderately complex litigation with demonstrated success in achieving favorable outcomes
- General knowledge of insurance law
- Knowledge of workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law (as necessary)
- Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Proficient in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills
- Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with all regulatory and professional standards
