About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated individual to plan and implement recreational programs, ensuring resident well-being and engagement. This role involves comprehensive documentation, program evaluation, and fostering positive interactions within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete documentation and accurate records, including program guides, participation tracking, monthly statistics, recreation assessments, quarterly documentation, interRAI-LTCF/CAPS, care plan updates, progress notes, and resident assessments.
  • Plan and implement creative and innovative recreational programs based on resident assessments.
  • Plan and implement special events, community-based programs, and outings.
  • Evaluate and adapt programs as needed.
  • Complete equipment assessments and ensure residents have access to appropriate assistive devices.
  • Participate in department meetings, home area meetings, and multidisciplinary care conferences.
  • Ensure effective communication and positive human relations with residents, families, volunteers, and team members.
  • Maintain up-to-date, attractively displayed, and accessible posters, notices, and calendars for residents.
  • Initiate media notices regarding creative programming in conjunction with the Programs Manager.
  • Develop and maintain community contacts and resources.
  • Collaborate with community-based agencies and groups to deliver programming to residents.
  • Understand and utilize quality indicators relevant to the Home, including those publicly reported.
  • Participate in the improvement of quality indicators and achieve satisfactory results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or indicated in the Job Task Inventory.

Requirements

  • Has a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, gerontology, or other related fields from an Ontario post-secondary institution.
  • Experience working with seniors.
  • Experience/training in GPA, PIECES, and U FIRST.
  • Models a person-centered living philosophy and embraces the Emotion Focus/Butterfly Model Approach to Care.
  • Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs.
  • Computer literate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of interRAI-LTCF – AIS certified, or must be completed successfully within one (1) year of being hired.
  • Second Language (Chinese, Portuguese, Italian, and Eastern European languages are an asset).
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Demonstrates focus on people's feelings and ability to turn tasks into positive social interactions.
  • Undertakes and meets all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.
  • Must provide documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements.
  • Two supervisory references required.
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
