About the Role

HDR is seeking a Structural BIM Lead to support and develop our Structural BIM capability across the Australian buildings business. This senior role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership to deliver high-quality BIM models and documentation on major projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver high-quality structural Revit models and construction documentation.
  • Manage discipline models including coordinates, levels, grids, scope boundaries, views, sheets and model segmentation.
  • Participate in project planning to ensure digital delivery requirements, milestones and resources are clearly defined.
  • Lead structural coordination, clash detection and issue resolution using Navisworks or equivalent tools.
  • Support interdisciplinary coordination within a Common Data Environment (e.g. BIM 360 or similar).
  • Collaborate closely with architects, services engineers and external consultants to resolve interface issues.
  • Support compliance with BEPs, digital delivery plans and HDR quality management systems.
  • Develop and maintain structural BIM standards, workflows, templates and content aligned with HDR global standards and ISO 19650 principles.
  • Provide quality assurance and technical oversight for structural BIM delivery across Australian building projects.
  • Act as the senior authority for Structural BIM, accountable for consistency, compliance and digital risk management.
  • Align Australian practices with lessons learned and best practice from HDR’s global structural BIM capabilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in efficiency, quality and reliability of structural digital delivery.
  • Use automation and computational tools such as Dynamo and Grasshopper to streamline workflows and reduce rework.
  • Manage interoperability between Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino and IFC-based exchanges.
  • Standardise and maintain structural BIM content libraries and documentation workflows.
  • Mentor and support junior technicians and engineers in Revit, coordination tools and BIM best practice.
  • Provide technical guidance and act as a first line of support for BIM-related issues within Structures.
  • Contribute to resource planning and long-term growth of structural BIM capability.
  • Evolve into formal people leadership responsibility as workload and team size grows.
  • Represent the Structures discipline in digital delivery discussions with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support project teams in meeting client requirements, delivery timeframes and commercial objectives.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with geographically dispersed teams.

Requirements

  • Technical degree or equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience.
  • 10-15 years’ experience in structural BIM design and delivery within a leading consulting environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Revit for structural modelling and documentation.
  • Strong experience with 3D coordination tools such as Navisworks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of multidisciplinary building systems and coordination.
  • Experience working within a Common Data Environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and provide senior technical leadership.
  • Experience on large-scale or complex projects (e.g. data centres, defence, health, education and mixed-use).
  • Experience with Dynamo; Grasshopper and Rhinos knowledge advantageous.
  • Python scripting and Revit API experience beneficial.
  • Familiarity with ISO 19650 and information management standards.
  • Experience with IFC workflows and interoperability.
