About the Role
Data Engineering is a key role in the development team, responsible for building and maintaining the AI-ready data foundation that powers inKind’s intelligent products, machine learning models, and large language model (LLM) applications. This position requires cross-departmental collaboration to build, operate, and optimize highly available data pipelines that feed analytics, ML training and inference, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain the business’s data and AI platforms.
- Own architectural processes and decisions for data models, including schemas, vector stores, and knowledge bases supporting AI and LLM use cases.
- Design and operate feature, embedding, and evaluation pipelines for machine learning model training, fine-tuning, and continuous evaluation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to convert data into understandable information and AI-ready inputs for other professionals.
- Ensure data and AI systems have relevant security, privacy, and data-governance controls, especially for data flowing into and out of third-party LLM providers.
Requirements
- Equivalent working experience to a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a technology-related field.
- 5+ years of professional database development experience, preferably as a Data Engineer in a fast-paced, complex business setting.
- Expert knowledge of SQL, focusing on query writing and optimization.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining reliable, scalable ETL/ELT using Snowflake, dbt, and AWS architecture.
- Proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML tooling, with experience integrating LLM APIs (e.g., Anthropic, OpenAI).
- Expert problem-solving ability and maker's mentality, with extensive experience designing and architecting new features and solutions from scratch, especially blending traditional data systems with AI-powered components.
- Eagerness to discover innovative ways to work faster and more efficiently, leveraging AI coding assistants and agents, while balancing tech debt, cost, security, and complexity.
- Proactive written and spoken communication, with excellent ability to collaborate effectively in-person and remotely.
- Courage to raise concerns and ask questions.
- Ability to stay current with new AI/ML frameworks and tools to speed up development, while identifying potential vulnerabilities and edge cases (e.g., prompt injection, data leakage).
