About the Role
The HR Policy and Compliance Specialist ensures Commerce maintains audit readiness and regulatory compliance across all people operations. This role manages the HR/People policy library, the annual people compliance calendar, and coordinates the SOX/SOC/ISO audit framework for the People Experience (PX) function. The specialist builds tools, SOPs, and cadences to enable HR control owners to confidently self-manage audit obligations, protecting the company's compliance posture and ensuring clarity, consistency, and accuracy in HR documentation.
Responsibilities
- Own the People policy library, including drafting, annual review cycles, version control, plain-language rewrites, and employee communication.
- Partner with Legal, HRBPs, and People Operations leaders to ensure policies are accurate, legally compliant, and accessible.
- Manage the policy acknowledgment process, tracking completion and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
- Monitor global employment law and regulatory changes, assessing impact and proactively initiating policy updates.
- Own the employee handbook, ensuring it reflects current policy, culture, and legal requirements, and lead its annual review.
- Execute the annual people compliance calendar, including EEO-1, California Pay reporting, mandatory harassment prevention training, and compliance poster updates.
- Track completion of compliance programs, follow up with stakeholders, escalate risks, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Interpret employment-related regulatory updates, advise HR partners and business stakeholders, and update policies and practices.
- Act as liaison between the People Experience team and internal Legal and Audit departments for compliance matters.
- Own the PX SOX/SOC/ISO audit framework, including control inventory, evidence requirements, SOP library, submission templates, and proactive audit calendar.
- Support HR control owners (People Operations, HRIS, Payroll, Benefits, Compensation, Talent Acquisition) in self-managing audit obligations with SOPs, toolkits, and readiness check-ins.
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for external SOX, SOC, and ISO audit processes, coordinating requests and consolidating submissions.
- Conduct periodic audits of system data and compliance data health.
- Partner with Legal and Internal Audit to identify and implement process improvements that reduce compliance risk.
- Maintain audit tracking systems for internal audit activities.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and supporting tools.
- Contribute to special projects and initiatives aligned with compliance priorities.
- Perform other assigned responsibilities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in Human Resources.
- At least 1 year of direct HR audit, compliance, or policy experience.
- Experience with ISO, SOC, and/or SOX audit processes strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with EEO-1 and other federal and state compliance reporting obligations preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Skills
- Strong organizational skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey compliance requirements and translate complex regulatory language.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Working knowledge of HR regulations, governance frameworks, and compliance best practices, including SOX, SOC, and/or ISO audit processes.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems and compliance tracking tools.
- Technical aptitude to learn new systems quickly.
- Workday experience preferred.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with Legal, Internal Audit, Finance, and HR teams.
- Skilled at influencing without direct authority.
- Proactive, systems-oriented mindset to build infrastructure and toolkits for self-management.

- National base salary range: $55,000 - $93,000
- Eligible for variable compensation (bonus or commission)
