About the Role
This role supports the Commercial Litigation Practice, which specializes in representing clients in high-stakes business disputes across various industries. The practice provides expert legal services in contract disputes, class actions, business torts, shareholder and partnership disputes, antitrust, and intellectual property litigation, handling all phases from pre-litigation to trial and appellate proceedings. Legal assistants will support legal teams, gaining an understanding of civil litigation mechanics through training and on-the-job experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform legal and factual research
- Participate in and prepare documents for production
- Maintain and index case files
- Prepare material for depositions and witness interviews
- Summarize and digest transcripts
- Prepare exhibits for pleadings, trials, and hearings
- Cite check and shepardize legal memoranda, briefs, articles, and opinions
- Create Tables of Authorities and of Contents
- Prepare pleadings and supporting materials for filing or service
- Create electronic and hard copies of trial books and case binders
- Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, and trials
- Arrange for court reporters, interpreters, and conference rooms
- Create charts, graphs, and tables for data analysis
- Utilize firm resources to accomplish tasks
- Prepare daily time entries for services performed
- Utilize e-discovery software programs and other spreadsheet and database programs as needed
Requirements
- Four year college degree with a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5
- Strong academic background
- Clear and concise writing skills
- Good verbal communication skills
- Related work and/or internship experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Willingness and ability to work overtime and long hours
- Basic knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Familiarity and competency with technology
- Ability to follow through on projects
- Ability to work under pressure and with a variety of personalities
- Ability to work with and liaise with colleagues in other internal departments
