About the Role
This role will provide support for our seasonal AGO Art Camp programming, conducting art courses and demonstrating techniques and materials for various art mediums and target audiences year-round.
Responsibilities
- Instructs students on the theoretical, technical and creative practices of various visual arts media through discourse, demonstrations and reference to the AGO’s permanent collection, exhibitions and instructor's own studio and/or academic work.
- Develops and submits for approval a comprehensive course outline for courses, workshops or summer camps.
- Determines materials, equipment, model, audio-visual, technical and other support needs for each course and submits requests to Manager and Chief Technician for approval.
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated experience working in the appropriate medium for the course(s) (drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, graphic art, mixed media, art history/theory) as well as the relevant conceptual background, techniques, materials and practices for instructing in those media/subjects.
- Comprehensive knowledge and directly related experience with teaching methodologies, techniques and practices, relevant to children and youth as required by the course.
- Demonstrated experience teaching at the age level of programming for students.
- Public exhibition and/or publication of their work in the previous two-years.
- Post-secondary studies in education and studio art.
- Knowledge of art history.
- Well-developed interpersonal, public relations, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well as part of an instructional team.
- Working knowledge of the AGO collection.
- Demonstrated computer competency (word, excel, email, etc.).
