About the Role
Geotab is seeking a Software Developer - Infrastructure to design and operate the core platform that services over 6 billion API requests per day. This role is critical as it supports every engineering team at Geotab in building, shipping, and scaling their products. The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology and eager to join an industry leader.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and scale the main gateway and application reliability layer of Geotab's main product.
- Own business-critical applications and manage application architecture.
- Write infrastructure-as-code using Terraform modules.
- Build tooling for logging, metrics, alerting, feature management, and configuration management.
- Collaborate closely with MyGeotab Software Development, CAE, and Site Reliability Engineering teams.
- Help migrate production services into Kubernetes, involving both application and IaC code changes.
- Build AI-enhanced observability and monitoring systems.
- Design intelligent alerting systems.
- Define and track SLIs and SLOs for core platform applications.
- Build dashboards, runbooks, and automated tooling.
- Participate in post-incident reviews (PIRs) to identify root causes and implement reliability improvements.
Requirements
- 2+ years of software development experience in C# or a comparable object-oriented language.
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience, including deploying workloads and debugging in production.
- Cloud platform experience (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Strong Linux and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Solid engineering practices: code review, testing, Git.
- Solid grasp of core networking concepts, including load balancing, DNS, mTLS, and HTTP/S.
- Observability tooling experience (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar).
- Familiarity with SRE practices — SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction.
- Experience operating systems at high scale (100M+ requests/day).
- PostgreSQL or SQL Server database experience.
- Prior experience participating in an on-call rotation for mission-critical production systems.
- Optimistic curiosity with AI is a must.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
