About the Role

The Cash Management Specialist processes payments and other monetary and non-monetary transactions on mortgage customers’ accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Review and post incoming mortgage loan payments from various sources.
  • Review and make decisions on exceptions received from lockbox.
  • Research and resolve exception items.
  • Process transaction reversals.
  • Receive and process checks from the mail room.
  • Generate borrower correspondence related to payment processing.
  • Complete tasks assigned by other departments related to cash and payment processing.
  • Research and resolve transaction inquiries.
  • Monitor and process funds held in suspense.
  • Monitor bank accounts for incoming funds and to ensure no overdrafts occur.
  • Submit and process funds transfers between bank accounts.
  • Balance and reconcile funds including borrower payments, tax and insurance funds, and other monetary transactions.
  • Monitor control reports to ensure posting accuracy.
  • Process disbursements and reclasses.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, equivalent, or equivalent work experience required.
  • Hands-on work experience in mortgage accounting, cash posting, bank account reconciliation, or banking (teller preferred).
  • Working knowledge of consumer loans.
  • Ability to review and accurately interpret information on a loan history statement.
  • Working knowledge of loan payments and their components.
  • Experience posting cash to customer accounts.
  • Experience reconciling high volume bank accounts.
  • Experience addressing customer inquiries.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work night shift, including occasional weekends.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting functions, cash processing, or reconciling tasks.
  • Experience working general ledger or bank accounting software packages.
  • Strong PC Skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Windows, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology quickly.
  • Knowledge of commonly used terminology, concepts, practices, and procedures within the mortgage industry.
  • Ability to meet time deadlines while working under pressure.
  • Ability to effectively handle simultaneous tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
  • Strong business writing and math skills.
  • Ability to effectively analyze loan account related problems and define solutions.
  • Must be able to verify identity and employment eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
  • Ability to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, including keyboard use.
  • Ability to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.
  • Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
