About the Role

As a Substation Project Engineer, you will play a vital role in delivering critical infrastructure projects that keep our network safe and reliable today, while preparing it for tomorrow’s growing demand for clean electricity. You will lead a diverse portfolio of projects across the region, ensuring delivery to the highest standards of safety, quality, time, and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of asset replacement and new build projects, typically valued between £100k and £10m.
  • Deliver a wide range of schemes including HV transformer and shunt reactor installations, cable replacements, protection and control upgrades, and cyber security improvements.
  • Oversee National Grid delivery teams and external contractors, ensuring safe and efficient execution in line with company policies and industry standards.
  • Take ownership of CDM responsibilities, ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Manage project financials, forecasting, and reporting throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work across the London region, with occasional travel and overnight stays as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a higher qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and contractor management skills.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and CDM Regulations.
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Salary/Compensations

  • £58,590 to £62,500 pa including allowance
